    Windows 8.1 and SA:MP

    In-Game Name: AustinH
    Date: 19/12/2015
    Your Question:
    Hello,

First off, I've been asked by a couple people to get back into SA:MP. I would be able to just fine, if I was on my old PC that was capable of playing SA:MP without crashing on startup. I downloaded my version of GTA San Andreas off of steam, but I replaced the .exe with the v1 .exe file.

I have tried almost everything I could think of. I've ran SA:MP and GTA:SA as an administrator, I've ran it in Windows 98/ME Compatibility Mode, I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times and I've deleted the gtasa.set user file.

    OP Code that I get
    Spoiler!

Well, I had this problem long time ago, I just installed the GTA on C instead of D, and also removed some models.

I had this errors as well and I know how to fix them properly.

If you have a ENB or such of a modification can cause the crash errors, remove it immediately. I re-downloaded the gta3.img and sometimes re-downloaded the entire GTA game and I was not getting the errors anymore.

    1. Remove the ENB or such of a modification immediately.
    2. If it doesn't help, re-download the gta3.img.
    3. If it doesn't help you, re-download the entire game and locate the folder into the ''Downloads folders''.

    Hello Austin,

I have had this problm with Windows 8/8.1 and 10 myself, I'd like to ask a question firstly.
Is your GTA completely clean from modifications?

Also this is how I simply resolved the problem for Windows 10. (Hopefully works for Windows 8.1 too!)

Uninstall SAMP and close any programs that may be 'using' Grand Theft Auto directory, such as Mod installer applications, the game itself, SAMP.

Simply navigate to your main directory of which your GTA is installed in, default is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games
Now, rename your folder 'GTA San Andreas' to something such as 'GTA SA'.
    Reinstall SAMP from here: https://www.sa-mp.com/download.php
And now simply try running SAMP.

Fixed? If not respond here with the error you are still getting and I'll look into it more,
    Jerrelle

Hmm, weird. I thought that would really work, alright. I'm not giving up on you yet, try this for me:

Navigate to the directory your GTA is installed in, default is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas
    >Right-click your SAMP.exe file, and select 'Proeprties'.
    >Select the compatiability tab, 'check' the box for 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and left-click the box and select 'Windows 98 / Windows Me'.
    >Click 'Apply' then 'Ok'.

Now if that did not work, do the exact same process with your gta_sa.exe (but try it with just SAMP.exe first).
Hopefully this will solve your issue as it solved it for me when I had ENB problems on my old PC with Windows 8.

Austin, do you have a legitimate copy of San Andreas or Pirated by any chance?

    Looking forward to your reply!

I tried running both in Compatibility Mode in Windows 98/ME. Still got the error. I have a legitimate copy.

    Change the directory.
    Also, don't run any mods.
    Get anti-crash.
Don't run in any compatibility mode.

Try downloading a non-Steam version of the game and see if it works. I don't like to enforce pirating but just for the sakes of trying.
